Things to Do in South Lake Tahoe

We’re so excited to celebrate with you in beautiful South Lake Tahoe! Whether you’re making a long weekend out of it or just stopping by for the festivities, here are some of our favorite ways to enjoy the area during your stay.

Take in the Fall Scenery

Late September is one of the best times to visit Tahoe. The summer crowds have eased, the weather is crisp and sunny, and the changing leaves add a golden glow to the mountains. Bring layers—it can be warm during the day and cool in the evenings.

Ride the Heavenly Gondola

For stunning panoramic views of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding Sierra Nevada mountains, hop on the gondola ride. At the top, you’ll find scenic overlooks, hiking trails, and a great spot for photos.

Go for a Hike

There are trails for every level nearby. For a short but rewarding hike with beautiful views check out Eagle Falls & Eagle Lake . Van Sickle Bi-State Park is a scenic trail starting near town. For a more challenging hike with incredible views check out Mount Tallac.

Relax by the Lake

Spend some time soaking up the beauty of Tahoe’s famous shoreline. Pack a picnic, rent a kayak or paddleboard, or take a refreshing (and brisk!) swim.

Get Out on the Water

Boat rentals and guided cruises are a great way to experience the lake from a new perspective. Sunset cruises are especially magical this time of year.

Enjoy Local Food & Drinks

South Lake Tahoe has plenty of great spots to unwind-- cozy cafes for brunch; lakeside restaurants for dinner; and casual bars and breweries for a night out.

Try Your Luck (or Just Explore)

If you're feeling lucky, check out the nearby casinos on the Nevada side. Even if gambling isn’t your thing, they often have live music, shows, and nightlife.

Stroll Through Town

Explore local shops, grab coffee, or just enjoy wandering through the village area.

One of our favorite Tahoe moments is grabbing a Wet Woody at Riva Grill and soaking in the lake views. It’s the perfect way to slow down, enjoy the fresh mountain air, and take it all in.
